Why You Should Soak Chia Seeds Before Eating them (Side Effects of Chia Seed)

Chia is a food which has become very popular in recent years, owing to its many health benefits.

Such seeds, native to Central America, have been the food source for people living in that area for a long time, and it is not by accident: Chia has 5 times more calcium than milk, making it ideal for those who are intolerant to lactose or vegans.

There are more antioxidants to it than blueberries.

It is three times more iron-rich than spinach, and has half as much fiber as oats. While supplying the body with a lot of energy, its intake increases muscle strength and stamina, leads to weight loss, reduces appetite and lowers blood sugar.

Do you need to soak the seeds of chia? So do you need to wash them in water for the night?

The short answer is no, you don’t need to soak your chia seeds immediately, but it helps to maximize the benefits. Not only can you make wonderful chia pudding recipes with chia gel, the hydrophilic properties of chia (the ability to absorb water) make the seed much more important to your body. The only reason you can consider eating chia dry is to help ease acid reflux, as it is more likely to absorb acid.

Chia gel can be used as a base to your favorite smoothies or protein shakes. I assume this produces a mucilaginous effect and actually helps digestion. Water-soaked chia seeds are easier to digest and the nutrients are better absorbed and stored in your body. Also, when the chia is soaked, it will prolong hydration and retain electrolytes, particularly during exercise. This is one of the reasons why ancient Aztec athletes routinely ate chia. And that’s why chia is “The Runner’s Seed” used by modern-day athletes to maintain optimum stamina and stay hydrated.

How long do you want to pre-soak your chia seeds?

It depends on how much of a hurry you’re in. If you’re a good planner, place your water and chia seeds in a mason jar, shake for about 2-3 minutes, and then let them sit in the refrigerator overnight. You can also get a very strong gel consistency with this process in around 2-3 hours.

If you’re in a rush, just whisk the chia and the water around in the mason jar (sealed) for about 5 minutes and let it sit for another 5-10 minutes and you should have a strong gel-like consistency. This will help prevent the seeds from getting stuck inside the bottle, which makes it harder to clean up afterwards.

Tip: You’re not supposed to soak chia for too long. In fact, I left a mason jar with chia and water in the refrigerator for a couple of days without a problem.

9 Bad Habits Which Will Make You Fat

Mention the words weight loss and you can spark a discussion for sure. It seems everybody has their own preferred method. Yet unfortunately it’s a method much like a yo-yo.

We’ll discuss nine bad habits that may discourage most people from losing the weight and keeping it off.

1. Eating Before Going to Bed

We’re probably eating late at night because it’s not a habit because we’re tired. If you were to keep track of everything you eat over a week’s bedtime, you might notice a pattern. You could eat something sweet and calorie-high. Pick a piece of fruit if you believe you have to eat something.

2. Sleeping Poorly

You can boost your sleep by maintaining a fixed sleep schedule. When you don’t have any set time to go to bed, the chemistry of your body’s may get out of synch.

It causes hormonal imbalances that trick you into thinking that only if you feed will you be happy.

3. It Can Be Relaxing to Eat while You are Distracted

Flopping down the couch to watch TV after a long day. But you may start snacking before long, without even paying attention to what you eat. A study conducted by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed distractions resulting in a person eating 50 percent more calories. Only make sure the next time you’re sitting down with your laptop or TV you don’t treats unexpectedly come with you.

4. Stress and Anxiety

Can be your worst enemies with these two words. They will raise your weight and disrupt your quality of life. We are faced with emotional hunger. When we encounter these emotions when we strike, we tend to eat more. Our immediate impulse is to eat sweets or junk food to relieve this pain.

These are serious problems, but if you have to eat, try to eat a piece of fruit with water or tea first.

5. Eating Fast

Our generation still gets in a rush. We are and eat on the move as a mobile community. We don’t really take time to chew our food properly. If we did, we’d be more comfortable with feeling full. Eating usually takes 20 minutes, if we slowly chew every bite.

6. Being Sedentary

We wouldn’t fall victim to a sedentary lifestyle if we stayed in the Wild West and rode horses and walked more. This is one of the major factors driving the global obesity epidemic. We eat while we rest. Then fat starts creeping around our midsections and we’re so keen to get involved in physical activity.

Consider it a priority to prevent too much idleness, and consider the pounds easier to shed.

7. Skipping Breakfast

When we manage to grab something on the way out of the door to work or school, we can simply skip breakfast altogether. Many dietitians and health care practitioners believe that the most important meal of the day is breakfast. Our morning nourishment stimulates our metabolism. And once that switch is switched on, it tends to remain powered all day. Without a good rate of metabolism, burning calories is almost impossible. Your first meal of the day should contain proteins, a small portion of a healthy fat diet, and complex carbohydrates blended.

8. Excessive Salt

It is beneficial for your weight to absorb salt but it can also induce fluid retention. That may have a negative impact on your blood pressure if there is too much fluid. If you’re looking for color, seek out other ways to spice up your meal.

9. Not Drinking Enough Liquids

Our kidneys have trouble functioning properly, among other organs, because they don’t have enough fluids. Toxins will accumulate on one element. Experts are recommending drinking at least 2 liters of water per day to stay hydrated. This will lead to better waste disposal and will also eliminate the build-up of excess fluid. One way to stay hydrated is to drink the usual tea or juices. Carbonated beverage intake isn’t a good source of fuel. That will only result in weight gain due to their high sugar levels.

This Is Why You Should Sleep On Your Left Side

Everyone knows how important sleep is in maintaining good mental and physical health. The location in which you sleep can have an impact on your health, help keep your skin looking young and increasing your digestive health.

Six ways to sleep on your left-hand side are good for your health.

It Strengthens the Ayurvedic Lymphatic System medicine says sleeping on your left side helps your body to properly remove lymph fluid and waste through the lymph nodes. This is because our body’s left side is the lymphatic side which is heavier. Western studies have also found sleeping on the left side can help the body break down brain waste materials. Sleeping on the right side can however decrease the strength of the lymphatic system.
It’s Better for Your Heart Doctors to encourage pregnant women to sleep on their left side to improve heart circulation. Even if you are not pregnant, or if you are a woman, sleeping on the left side may help take some weight off your heart. Gravity may help drain the lymph toward the heart, and remove aortic blood from the heart.

For Pregnant Women Sleeping on the left side it’s best not only improves the breathing of pregnant women. It can also help ease back weight, prevent the uterus from crushing the liver and increase blood flow to the heart, kidneys and fetus. For that reason, doctors are advising pregnant women to spend as much of their sleep time on their left sides as possible.

A research published in The Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology found that lying on the left side would help to reduce symptoms of acid reflux. This is because the left side of our stomach is. Lying on the right side could make those symptoms worse. The help comes really quickly; if you have heartburn after a meal, try to lie down for ten minutes on your left side.

It may alleviate back pain People with chronic back pain can feel a little better if they turn left to sleep. That’s because sleeping on your side can ease weight on your backbone. A more relaxed feeling will increase your chances of getting a good night’s sleep.

If you usually sleep on the back, center, or right side, you may wonder how to break that habit and start sleeping on the left.

It will take some time and practice but in this position you will be able to train your body quickly to sleep.

You should try lying on your left side and put a full-length body pillow on your bottom. At night, the pillow will stop you from turning at.

Try to switch the side of your bed onto which you sleep. This will make turning to your other side simpler for you, and have the same great sleep.

Another trick is to keep the right side with a dim light. Since your body will naturally want to move away from the light while you are sleeping, sleeping on your left side will make it easier for you.

Carry out these simple changes as soon as you can–they will improve your sleep and improve your health.

It is important to note that some individuals-such as those with heart disease, sleep apnea, glaucoma, and carpal tunnel syndrome-may not be improved by sleeping on their left sides.

11 Reasons why berries are among the healthiest food in the world

Berries are one of the healthiest foods you can eat.

We are tasty, nutritious and have a range of incredible health benefits.

Here are 11 good reasons for including berries in your diet.

  1. Antioxidants Loaded Berries contain antioxidants that help keep free radicals under control.

Free radicals are unstable molecules that are safe in small amounts but can destroy your cells when their numbers are too high, causing oxidative stress .

Berries are a major source of antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid and resveratrol. Furthermore to protecting your cells, these plant compounds can reduce the risk of disease.

One study showed that blueberries, blackberries and raspberries have the highest antioxidant activity of commonly consumed fruit, alongside pomegranates .

In fact, several studies have confirmed that antioxidants in berries can help reduce oxidative stress.

One study in healthy men found that consuming a single,10-ounce(300-gram) portion of blueberries helped protect their DNA from free radical damage.

In another study in healthy people, eating 17 ounces (500 grams) of strawberry pulp everyday for 30 days lowered the prooxidant marker by 38% .

Overview Berries are rich in antioxidants such as anthocyanins that can protect your cells from free radical damage.

  1. Can Help Improve Blood Sugar and Insulin Response Berries will improve your blood sugar and insulin levels.

Test-tube and human studies suggest that they may protect your cells from high blood sugar levels, help increase insulin sensitivity, and reduce blood sugar and insulin response to high-carb foods .

Importantly, both healthy people and those with insulin resistance tend to have these effects.

In one study in healthy women, eating 5 ounces (150 grams) of puréeed strawberries or mixed berries with bread contributed to a 24–26% reduction in insulin levels relative to consuming bread alone.

Moreover, in a six-week study, obese people with insulin resistance who drank blueberry smoothies twice daily experienced higher insulin sensitivity than those who used berry-free smoothies.

Overview Berries can boost blood sugar and insulin response when consumed with high-carb foods or when included in smoothies.

  1. High in fiber berries are a good source of fiber, including soluble fibre. Studies show that eating soluble fiber slows down the flow of food through your digestive tract, leading to decreased hunger and increased feeling of fullness.

This may minimize your calorie intake and make weight management easier.

What’s more, fiber helps reduce the amount of calories you absorb from mixed foods. One study found that doubling your fiber intake could make you absorb up to 130 calories less per day.

In addition, the high fiber content of berries means that they are low in digestible or net carbs, which are measured by subtracting the fiber from the total carbs.

Here are carbohydrate and fiber counts for 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of berries: carbohydrate: 11.9 grams of carbohydrate, 6.5 of which are fiber Blackberries: 10.2 grams of carbohydrate, 5.3 of which are fiber Strawberries: 7.7 grams of carbohydrate, 2.0 of which are fiber Blueberries: 14.5 grams of carbohydrate, 2.4 of which are fiber Notice that the typical serving size for berries is 1 cup, which converts to about 1 cup.

Berries are a low-carb-friendly food due to their low net carb content.

Summary Berries contain fiber, which can increase your feeling of fullness, as well as reduce your appetite and the amount of calories your body absorbs from mixed foods.

  1. Provide Most Nutrient Berries are low in calories and highly nutritious. Besides being rich in antioxidants, it also contains some vitamins and minerals.

Berries, in particular strawberries, are high in vitamin C. In addition, 1 cup (150 grams) of strawberries provides 150 per cent of RDI for vitamin C .

With the exception of vitamin C, all berries are quite similar in terms of their vitamin and mineral content.

Calories: 43 Vitamin C: 35 per cent of the Relative Daily Intake (RDI) Manganese: 32 per cent of RDI Vitamin K1: 25 per cent of RDI Copper: 8 per cent of RDI Folate: 6 per cent of RDI Calories for 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of berries range from 32 per cent for strawberries to 57 per cent for blueberries;

Overview Berries are low in calories but rich in a number of vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin C and manganese.

  1. Help Fight Inflammation Berries have a strong anti-inflammatory effect.

Inflammation is the protection of your body against infection or injury.

Modern lifestyles, however, often lead to excessive, long-term inflammation due to increased stress, inadequate physical activity, and unsafe food choices.

This type of chronic inflammation is believed to contribute to conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

Studies suggest that antioxidants in berries can help to lower the inflammatory markers .

For one study for overweight people, those consuming strawberry drinks with high-carb, high-fat foods found a more significant decrease in certain inflammatory markers than in the control group.

Overview Berries can help reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of heart disease and other health problems.

  1. Can help lower cholesterol levels Berries are heart-healthy foods.

Black raspberries and strawberries have been shown to help lower cholesterol levels in people who are obese or have metabolic syndrome.

In an 8-week trial, adults with metabolic syndrome who used a cold-dried strawberry drink every day reported an 11 per cent reduction during LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Berries may also help prevent oxidizing or damaging of LDL cholesterol, which is known to be a major risk factor for heart disease .

In a controlled study in obese people, those who had eaten 1.5 ounces (50 grams) of frozen blueberries for 8 weeks found a 28 per cent decrease of their oxidized LDL levels .

Overview Berries have been shown to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and help protect them from oxidizing, which may reduce the risk of heart disease.

  1. May be good for your skin Berries can help reduce skin wrinkles, as their antioxidants help control free radicals, one of the leading causes of skin damage that leads to aging .

While research is minimal, ellagic acid appears to be responsible for some of the skin-related benefits of berries.

Test tubes and animal studies indicate that this antioxidant can protect the skin by blocking the development of enzymes that break down collagen in sun-damaged skin .

Collagen is a protein that is part of the structure of your skin. This helps the skin to stretch and stay firm. When collagen is harmed, your skin can sting and grow wrinkles.

For one test, the application of ellagic acid to the skin of hairless mice exposed to ultraviolet light reduced inflammation for eight weeks and helped protect collagen from damage .

Overview Berries contain antioxidant ellagic acid, which may help to reduce wrinkles and other signs of skin aging due to exposure to sunlight.

  1. May help protect against cancer Several antioxidants in berries, including anthocyanins, ellagic acid and resveratrol, may reduce the risk of cancer.

Specifically, animal and human studies suggest that berries can protect against oesophageal, nasal, breast, and colon cancer .

Based on the study in 20 people with colon cancer, taking 2 ounces (60 grams) of freeze-dried raspberries for 1–9 weeks improved tumor markers in some participants, but not all .

In addition to the test tube study, found that all types of strawberries had solid, protective effects on liver cancer cells, irrespective of whether they were high or low in antioxidants (50).

Description Berries have been shown to reduce the markers associated with tumor growth in animals and people with multiple types of cancer.

  1. Can Be Enjoyed on Almost All Diet Forms Berries can be included in a number of diets.

While people on low-carb and ketogenic diets sometimes avoid fruit, berries may typically be enjoyed in moderation.

For example, half a cup of blackberries (70 grams) or raspberries (60 grams) contains less than 4 grams of digestible carbs (18, 19 grams).

Large quantities of berries can be added to paleo, Mediterranean, vegetarian and vegan berries.

To people who want to lose weight, the few calories in berries make them perfect to salads, snacks or desserts.

Organic and wild berries are now widely available in a variety of parts of the world. If not in season, frozen berries can be bought and thawed as needed.

The only people who need to avoid berries are those who need a low-fat diet for certain digestive disorders, as well as individuals who are allergic to berries. Allergic reactions to strawberries are normal.

Summary Berries can be enjoyed on most diets, as they are low in calories and carbs and are widely available fresh or frozen.

  1. Can help keep your arteries healthy In addition to lowering cholesterol, berries provide other health benefits for your heart, including improving the function of your arteries.

The cells that make up your blood vessels are called endothelial cells. They help control blood pressure, prevent blood from clotting, and perform other important functions.

Excessive inflammation can damage these cells, inhibiting their proper functioning. It is referred to as endothelial dysfunction, a major risk factor for heart disease .
